I recently had a business trip in Krakow, Poland but had a few days to explore this classy and vibrant city. Cheap beer, heavy foods, polite and happy people. All and all a good little trip even if there was no bushcraft involved.
One stick fire in the rain. This is the third time, I go out while its raining and as I get to the site to do the challenge, the rain stops.....Oh well, the scenery was nice. Hope you enjoy a fresh spring shower and dew drops in the prairie!
Selected classes given at the Hardwoodsman Meet in Missouri on April 19-21, 2012. Instructors shown include RangerJoe (Bowdrill), IAWoodsman (Improvised packs and six stroke axe stake), J. Williams (First Aid Kits), JCL-MD (3 x Prep, 1 Stick Fire) and Nick (demoing rope strength during fraying).
I am just exploring in a little video mixing fun and decided to use Rick as my subject matter. Trust me, I don't have a man-crush on him or anything like that. He is in interesting character and interesting subject and his rhythm seems to rock on with Ultracat - "SPACE LOVE".....Enjoy the Wilder-Techno!
Rick Marchand, owner of wildertools, demonstrates his technique for knife sharpening using Japanese waterstones. The knife being sharpened is a Bark River Aurora.
An over-nighter with Rick Marchand, custom knife maker and owner of Wildertools, getting out and testing a couple of his models. The FUG is featured for most of the video. Hope you enjoy.
Just playing with a hiking stick/camera mount and gorilla pod/mount system as an alternative to my camera and a quicky review of one of my Brian Andrews (Off-The-Map Outfitters) knives - the Bitterroot model in African Blackwood scales.
RangerJoe and I returned to Puzzle Lake for some late winter camping and using sleds to haul our gear. Part 1 of a 2 part video series. Note footage for this video was contributed by both myself and Joe and the video is a joint effort between the two of us.
This is not my idea, but something I picked up from another video on Youtube. So simple, it hurts. Just use 3 nails inside your trangia burners to make a pot base. Also in the clip are some thoughts on my little Bruce Culberson EDC blade - 3.5" blade in 1070, 1/8th thick with walnut scales. Very nice little day hiking knife.
Taking advantage of our first snowfall since Christmas this winter in Southern Ontario, I took the dogs out for a romp in the prairie, made a little hand warming twig fire and provide some comments about one of my knives - Bryan Breeden Big Paw which I've had for about 2 years now.
My good friend invited us to share New Year's Eve at their cottage near Sharbot Lake, Ontario. Despite a bit of a headache the next day, we did manage a nice little walk along a trail near another of his land lots. Not really much bushcraft or commentary on this one. Just an enjoyable little 1 hr hike in wet snow woodlands of Eastern Ontario.
We've added a new puppy to our family and this was her first time out in the bush with the big boys. Except for one little situation where she was turned around, she seemed to do pretty good and will take to the bush well I think!
An overnighter in the local scout camp woods with some pals. Rick Marchand demo's his new knife, the DOMV. Really not much happened on this one except that it completes a personal challenge for this year; to have one overnight camp out per month for each month of the year.
This is a lengthy video and I`ll apologize for that in advance. I review 5 backpacks I have had over the years and what I found works and what doesn`t. The models reviewed include a maxpedition falcon II, serratus overnighter pack, MEC Brio-50, MEC Brio-60 and a North 49 Westport expedition pack.
Actually 6 natural tinders, 6 embers + 1 failed. This was a variation on the BushClass USA lesson for lighting 5 natural tinders with a firesteel. I was in a bowdrill mood today.
This was a mini-W&SS challenge thread. Use a piece of your kit to dry a bic lighter that has been fully immersed in water. Not that hard to do, but some people just give up when that bic doesn't want to spark anymore.
Yeah, my dad is a muscian, but I'm not!
