At last, here's the one that most people have asked about - the full-length version of 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' from Miss Ross's magnificent first solo LP. (Lots of other fantastic tracks on there as well - watch this space!)
Can't find this one either. When I looked for 'Barry White Gonna' I got a dozen alternatives for 'Never Never Gonna Give You Up' but nothing at all for this (or for 'What Am I Gonna Do With You' for that matter, so there's another one onto the list!)
The 7" and 12" mixes of this track are so different they're practically different records - to my ears the 7" sounds completely dull and flat in comparison to the magnificent 12" mix here.
Have posted the 7" version for comparison (video response).
This was a real labour of love and took me forever, so I hope it's worth it! :-))
Obviously the full Macarthur Park Suite, at nearly 18 minutes, is far too long to post in its entirety, so instead I'm posting it in two parts. Part 2 (One Of A Kind/Heaven Knows/Macarthur Park Reprise) should follow soon, as long as I can work out how to do it!
Both were US top 20 hits - 'Special' was actually the bigger hit (#12 against #18 for 'My Mistake') but the consensus is that 'My Mistake' is much the better of the two, it's certainly the one which is better-remembered nowadays.
From the magnificent 'Friends', this is the 'full length album version', as for some reason the record company cut about 20 seconds for the 7" release. (Why they would need to edit a track which was less than 4m 30s to begin with is one of life's little mysteries!)
So what was Chic's highest charting UK hit? I suppose the answer is obvious or I wouldn't be asking - but who'd have thought it was this one rather than 'Le Freak' or 'Good Times'?
